Gameplay Details

Chess is a two-player strategy game played on an 8x8 grid called a chessboard. Each player controls an army of 16 pieces, including a king, queen, bishops, knights, rooks, and pawns. The objective is to checkmate the opponent’s king, which means the king is in a position to be captured (“in check”) and there is no legal move to escape.

Piece Movements:

• King: Moves one square in any direction.
• Queen: Moves any number of squares in any direction (vertically, horizontally, or diagonally).
• Rook: Moves any number of squares vertically or horizontally.
• Bishop: Moves any number of squares diagonally.
• Knight: Moves in an “L” shape: two squares in one direction and then one square perpendicular.
• Pawn: Moves forward one square, but captures diagonally. On its first move, a pawn can move forward two squares.

Special Moves:

• Castling: A move involving the king and either rook, used to bring the king to safety and develop the rook.
• En Passant: A special pawn capture that can occur when a pawn moves two squares forward from its starting position and lands beside an opponent’s pawn.
• Pawn Promotion: When a pawn reaches the opponent’s back rank, it can be promoted to any other piece (except a king).

How to Play

1. Start the Game: Launch the game and select “Play Online” to find an opponent.
2. Choose Your Side: You can choose to play as white or black. White moves first.
3. Move Your Pieces: Click on a piece to select it, then click on the destination square to move it.
4. Checkmate the King: The goal is to place the opponent’s king in checkmate by threatening it with capture and blocking all escape routes.
5. Use Special Moves: Be aware of special moves like castling, en passant, and pawn promotion.
6. Communicate: Use the chat feature to communicate with your opponent during the game.
7. Win or Draw: The game ends when one player checkmates the other’s king, or if the game is drawn due to stalemate, insufficient material, or other rules.
